ALBANY–The College of Saint Rose won its ninth straight season opener with tonight's 3-0 triumph against visiting Nyack.
Â
Freshman forward
Victoria Barris accounted for all three strikes to become the first Saint Rose player in two years to register a hat trick. Junior forward
Morgan Burchhardt set up the first pair of goals as the Golden Knights (1-0) manufactured a 30-5 shot advantage and a 9-1 corner kick differential.
Â
After both teams played at a relatively slow rate in the beginning, Saint Rose began dictating the pace that yielded six shots within a five minute span with Barris capping the spurt by delivering a header into the back of the net off a Burchhardt cross with 10:52 gone by.
Â
Burchhardt then slid a free kick into the left side of the area that Barris ran onto and drove home with four minutes left until intermission. Barris then rounded out the scoring in the 87th minute when she jumped on a rebound to complete her stellar collegiate debut.
Â
Looking ahead, the Golden Knights head to Philadelphia on Saturday to take on Holy Family University. Meanwhile, the Warriors will play their home opener on Tuesday versus Saint Anselm.
