DOBBS FERRY, NY-The College of Saint Rose fell 2-1 at Mercy on Thursday evening after an 86th minute strike put the host Mavericks on top to seal the 2016 opener for both teams.

Ryan Rooney tied the game at 1-1 in the 34th minute by capitalizing on a loose ball in the box. The Golden Knights made a late charge that included a shot by junior back
Ryan Clarke, but were unable to net the equalizer.

Christian Esposito made seven stops, while the Mavericks held a 24-9 shot advantage and a 4-3 edge in corner kicks. Junior midfielder
Suleiman Harunya-iya recorded a team-high three shots on goal.

Looking ahead, Saint Rose is scheduled to play its home opener Sunday with a 1:00 pm match versus Concordia at Sullivan Field at the Plumeri Sports Complex. Meanwhile, the Mavericks have 12:00 pm non-league home date Saturday with Le Moyne.
