SAINT ROSE DROPS SERIES FINALE AT PACE

PLEASANTVILLE, NY-The College of Saint Rose dropped this weekend's series finale with today's 3-1 setback at Northeast-10 Conference Southwest Division rival Pace University. The Golden Knights (15-13/9-4 NE-10) had a few chances early on, but stranded two runners in scoring position in the first and left the bases loaded after pushing across a run in the third.

Senior left fielder Nick Venier and sophomore designated hitter Alec Caprarella had two hits apiece to lead the Saint Rose attack. Meanwhile, senior right-hander Nick Cioffi fanned four and walk just one throughout 7.1 innings of work while suffering his first loss in five decisions this spring.

The Golden Knights took a 1-0 lead after sophomore right fielder Sean Maki led off the third with a triple to right-center and came across two batters later courtesy of a Venier base hit to right.

However, Pace (24-16/10-9 NE-10) tied it in the home half and then scored the winning run with two down in the fifth, before adding an insurance marker in the eighth.

Senior right-hander Dylan Mouzakes held Saint Rose at bay with another strong effort for the Setters. Mouzakes allowed seven hits and fanned 10 while walking only one over the distance to go to 8-1 on the year. Meanwhile, junior center fielder John Kurkura finished 2-for-4 with a run scored to spearhead the Pace attack.

Looking ahead, the Golden Knights are on the road for a 3:00 pm game Tuesday at Upstate Challenge rival Le Moyne in Syracuse. Meanwhile, the Setters return to the diamond on Wednesday for a 3:30 pm meeting at Adelphi on Long Island.
