GOLDEN KNIGHTS SPLIT WITH MERRIMACK


ALBANY-The College of Saint Rose split a Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader with Merrimack on Saturday, falling 7-2 in game one before taking the nightcap 11-3 at Bob Bellizzi Field.
 
Saint Rose (6-10/2-1 NE-10) scored two runs on four hits through the first three innings of game one, but scattered just two additional hits as Merrimack (13-8/3-2 NE-10) pulled away down the stretch.
 
Junior shortstop Tyler Ungerland and senior left fielder Nick Venier each went 2-for-4, while junior second baseman Mike Flynn tallied three walks.
 
In game two, the teams went blow-for-blow early, and the Golden Knights led 5-3 after the third inning and tacked on another three in the fourth to lead 8-3. Senior right hander Phillip Zdanowski settled into a groove after the third, and finished with seven strikeouts over 6.2 innings en route to his first victory of the season.
 
Freshman right fielder Dakota DeJordy, senior center fielder Derek Reed  junior third baseman Alex Chandler, and Venier all contributed two hits apiece. Chandler totaled a team-best three RBIs and Reed drove in two runs and scored three. Ungerland finished 1-for-2 with three walks, three runs and an RBI.
 
Looking ahead, Saint Rose travels to Le Moyne on Tuesday for a 3 p.m.
