GOLDEN KNIGHTS RALLY TWICE TO SWEEP HOST SAINT ANSELM

MANCHESTER, NH–The College of Saint Rose rallied in both ends of today's Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader to sweep host Saint Anselm. The Golden Knights (8-10/4-1 NE-10), who have won three straight and five of their last six games, took the opener 5-4 in 11 innings and then won the finale by an identical score.

Saint Rose bounced back from a 4-1, second inning deficit as junior second baseman Mike Flynn drove a base hit to center field that scored junior catcher Joe DeLuca with the winning run in the 11th inning of game one.

The Golden Knights then scored twice in the eighth and once in the ninth to secure the sweep. Sophomore right fielder Sean Maki roped a two-run triple to deadlock it in the eighth and sophomore designated hitter Alec Caprarella delivered the game-winner with a bases loaded groundout in the ninth. Senior left fielder Nick Venier set the stage with a leadoff triple to right.

In the opener, junior right-hander Ryan McGrath helped put the Golden Knights in position for the comeback. He allowed just a run on one hit and fanned 10 throughout 7.0 innings of work in a no-decision relief outing.

Fellow junior right-hander Carmine Vricciariello and senior southpaw Joe Pokrentowski also had impressive performances. Vricciariello hurled 2.0 innings of one-hit ball to pick up the victory, while Pokrentowski put Saint Anselm down in order in the 11th to chalk up this fourth save this spring.

Flynn finished 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI while Venier went 2-for-5 with an RBI as well. DeLuca reached base four times while junior shortstop Tyler Ungerland  singled in the fourth to extend his hit streak to 16 games.

Saint Anselm took advantage of a pair of errors to go up 3-0 in the first, and added another in the second before Saint Rose kept the Hawks at bay the remainder of the ballgame.

The Golden Knights manufactured a run in both the second and the fourth to get to within 4-2. Venier then made it a one-run affair with an RBI base hit in the eighth. In the ninth, Flynn doubled down the right field line and came across with the tying run via a Caprarella pinch hit single.

In the finale, Maki finished 2-for-3 while Pokrentowski again set the Hawks down in order in the ninth to secure his second save of the day.

Saint Rose went up 2-0 in the fifth behind a pair of hits and two errors. Saint Anselm (6-18/2-6 NE-10) answered with three runs in the home half, before tacking on another in the seventh.

Going forward, the Golden Knights have a 3:30 pm NE-10 Southwest Division game Wednesday at American International in Springfield. The Hawks will host Post University on Tuesday for a 3:30 pm non-league tilt.
