GOLDEN KNIGHTS SWEPT IN UPSTATE CHALLENGE DOUBLEHEADER

ALBANY-The College of Saint Rose fell 6-4 and 9-1 in six innings in a Northeast-10 Conference Upstate Challenge twin-billing on a warm and sunny Monday evening at Cathy Haker Field.

Saint Rose (10-24/5-12 NE-10) took the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning in game one when senior catcher Zoe Dubois scored on a sacrifice fly from sophomore left fielder Katie Shevlin.

However, Le Moyne (25-13/12-7) responded with four runs in the top of the fifth and one in each of the sixth and seventh innings to lead 6-2. A two-out, two-run double from Dubois gave the Golden Knights life in the bottom of the seventh, but the door was closed after Dolphins pitching forced a fly out to end the game.

Senior shortstop Danielle Brusca went 1-for-2 with two walks, an RBI and run scored. Dubois collected two doubles, while senior center fielder Meghan Reynolds finished 1-for-3 with a run scored.

In the nightcap, freshman first baseman Briana Bowen doubled home freshman second baseman Alina Germinerio in the home half of the third inning to cut the Le Moyne lead to 2-1. In the top of the fourth, the Dolphins posted six runs and added another in the sixth to force a run-rule decision.

Senior right-hander Danielle Dayton did not allow an earned run and picked up two strikeouts in 2.1 innings out of the pen.  Dubois went 2-for-3 and junior center fielder Carly Wood finished 1-for-3 with a double.

Up next, Saint Rose travels to Springfield, Mass. to take on American International on Tuesday, April 19 in a crucial 3 p.m. Southwest Division doubleheader.
