GOLDEN KNIGHTS WIN OPENER IN EXTRAS, FALL SHORT IN GAME TWO

CLERMONT, Fla.-The College of Saint Rose defeated Lock Haven, 4-2, in eight innings in its first matchup of the day, before falling 5-3 to Bloomsburg in game two.

The Golden Knights (3-7) struck first in the opener when junior third baseman Carly Wood doubled-home freshman left fielder Briana Bowen. Senior catcher Zoe Dubois then collected an RBI double of her own to make it a 2-0 contest heading to the home-half of the third.

The Bald Eagles (9-7) scored a run in the fourth and forced extras with a game-tying two-out double in the bottom of the seventh.

In the top of the eighth, senior shortstop Danielle Brusca scored on a sacrifice fly from sophomore second baseman Taylor Solomon before senior designated player Tina Karaqi added an insurance run with a solo shot to right field.

Senior right-hander Nicole Wickham then shut down Lock Haven in the bottom half of the frame to secure the victory. She pitched all eight innings and struck out six.

In game two, Bloomsburg (8-2) jumped out to a 3-0 lead after two innings and added two more in the fifth to make it 5-0. In the bottom of the sixth, the Golden Knights got back in the game after Karaqi launched her second round-tripper of the day, a three-run blast, to make it 5-3. However, Saint Rose could not build off the momentum and ultimately fell short.

Junior right-hander Renee Vaiano tossed three scoreless innings in relief and struck out three.

The Golden Knights wrap up their 12-game stint in Florida tomorrow with games against University of the Sciences at 9 a.m. and Bridgeport at 11 a.m.
