ALBANY, N.Y.-The College of Saint Rose had its home and
Northeast-10 Conference opener on Friday but could not take advantage, falling to Stonehill 7-2 and 11-2, on a cold and blustery afternoon on Cathy Haker Field at Plumeri Sports Complex.Â
Â
In game one, Saint Rose (2-10) could not keep pace with Stonehill (6-9-10) who scored in four different innings before the Golden Knights could get on the board with two outs in the seventh.
Â
Junior third baseman
Carly Wood went 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored. Senior designated player
Tina Karaqi finished game one with two walks and an RBI, while senior shortstop
Danielle Brusca went 1-for-3 with one RBI and a run scored.
Â
In the second half of Friday's twinbill, the Golden Knights held a 2-0 lead after Wood scored on a sacrifice fly from senior catcher
Zoe Dubois and Brusca scored on a groundout by Karaqi. However, Saint Rose could not add to the lead and the Skyhawks exploded for 11 runs in the sixth inning including nine with two outs to take control of the contest.
Â
The Golden Knights return to Plumeri on Saturday on take on Bentley at 3 p.m. A doubleheader was originally scheduled but weather forced game one to be pushed later and game two to be postponed.
