NORRISTOWN, Pa.-The College of Saint Rose defeated Chestnut Hill 7-2 on Saturday afternoon in a non-league contest from Philadelphia.
 
Saint Rose (2-8) got on the board in the top of the first inning when senior left fielder 
Nick Venier tripled-home senior center fielder 
Derek Reed, who led off the game with a double. Venier then scored on an RBI ground out from junior first baseman 
Joe DeLuca.
 
Chestnut Hill (6-9) scored on a ground out in the third and led off the seventh inning with a home run, but was largely kept quiet by senior right-hander 
Ryan McGrath. He allowed just two hits and struck out five in 6.0 innings of work.
 
The Golden Knights scored four runs with two outs in the top of the ninth sparked by singles from Reed and Venier. Following a DeLuca walk, junior shortstop 
Tyler Ungerland hit a bases-loaded single that scored two runs. Next, an error by the Griffins allowed two more Saint Rose tallies and ultimately put the game out of reach.
 
Junior right-hander 
Carmine Vricciariello tossed two scoreless innings out of the pen and struck out three while picking up his first save of the year.
 
The top four hitters for Saint Rose – Reed, Venier, DeLuca and Ungerland – went a combined 10-for-13 with two walks and scored all seven runs. Additionally, junior third baseman 
Alex Chandler went 2-for-5 with a stolen base out of the five spot in the in the lineup.
 
Coming up, the Golden Knights open play at home when Chestnut Hill comes to Albany for a doubleheader beginning at 12 p.m. on Friday, March 25 on Bob Bellizzi Field at the Plumeri Sports Complex.
