SAINT ROSE SHUTS DOWN POST UNIVERSITY

MILLERSVILLE, PA–Senior right-hander Nick Cioffi tossed 8.0 innings of shutout ball to lead The College of Saint Rose to a 2-0 victory against Post University on the Millersville campus this afternoon.

Cioffi scattered seven hits, fanned seven and walked only one en route to the victory. The Towson University transfer got out of a bases loaded jam in the first and retired 12-of-15 throughout the middle innings to collect his first win in a Golden Knights uniform.

Junior shortstop Tyler Ungerland went 2-for-4 to record his fifth multi-hit effort of the year. He also ran his hit streak to eight games.

The Golden Knights (1-8) got on the board in the second when Ungerland stroked a leadoff single to left and advanced to second on a base hit by junior third baseman Alex Chandler. They both moved up on a base on a passed ball and Ungerland later scored via a wild pitch.

Saint Rose then added an insurance run in the eighth when senior center fielder Derek Reed belted a two out single and scored on an RBI double by senior left fielder Nick Venier. Senior left-hander Joe Pokrentowski worked around a one-out walk in the ninth to pick up the save.

For the Eagles (5-6), sophomore center fielder Alex Wright went 3-for-4 while sophomore right-hander Nick Arnold surrendered six hits and whiffed four throughout 8.0 innings while suffering his first loss of the year.

Looking ahead, both teams are in action tomorrow. The Golden Knights have a 12:00 pm date at Chestnut Hill College in Philadelphia, while Post has an 11:00 am meeting with host Millersville.
