GOLDEN KNIGHTS COME UP JUST SHORT AT #4 MILLERSVILLE

MILLERSVILLE, PA–The College of Saint Rose dropped a pair of games by a combined three runs at fourth ranked Millersville this afternoon. The Marauders (12-1) took the opener 3-2 in 10 innings after the Golden Knights (0-8) pushed across the tying run in the ninth. They then won the finale 5-3.

Senior left fielder Nick Venier tripled and scored a run while senior right-hander Phillip Zdanowski allowed a pair of runs on five hits throughout 5.2 innings of a no-decision outing to lead Saint Rose in the opener.

Millersville ran its win streak to 10 games when junior left fielder Jeremy Musser lined a base hit down the left field line that brought across sophomore second baseman Ted Williams from second with the winning run.

Earlier, Venier drove a leadoff triple to the right-center field gap and scored on a groundout off the bat of junior first baseman Joe DeLuca to put Saint Rose up 1-0 in the fourth. The Marauders then scored a pair in the seventh, before senior center fielder Derek Reed led off the ninth with a base hit, moved to second on a Venier sacrifice and scored on an RBI single off the bat of junior shortstop Tyler Ungerland to bring about extra innings.

In the second game, Millersville jumped out to a 5-2 lead after three, before the Golden Knights added a run in the fourth on a Venier sacrifice fly.

Venier also homered in the first while Ungerland finished 2-for-4 with a solo home run in the third to extend his hit streak to seven games. Freshman southpaw Jesse Curtin came out of the bullpen to toss 2.0 innings of no-hit ball.

Senior shortstop Tyler Orris and Musser had three hits apiece to lead Millersville.

Looking ahead, both teams are back on the same diamond tomorrow. The Golden Knights have a neutral site game versus Post University at 11:00 am. The Marauders will host Le Moyne at 2:30 pm.
