SAINT ROSE SUFFERS SETBACK TO NEW HAVEN ON SENIOR DAY

ALBANY-The College of Saint Rose converted just 25.0 percent (4-for-16) of its shots from long range that allowed visiting New Haven to chalk up a 71-62 Northeast-10 Conference victory on Senior Day this afternoon at the Daniel P. Nolan Gymnasium.

Junior forward Tyler Sayre ascended the 20-point mark for the fourth consecutive time with a game-high 25 points to lead the Golden Knights (10-12/8-8 NE-10). He also pulled down seven rebounds and handed out three assists. Also, freshman guard Pharroh Gordon and sophomore guard Mical-Ryan Boyd contributed 11 and eight points respectively.

The two teams were deadlocked 34-34 at intermission and it was still a tie game, 45-45, with 14:49 to go when freshman guard Michael Bourke sparked a 14-6 run with a 3-pointer that put the Chargers (7-15/4-12 NE-10) ahead to stay. Senior forward Samir McDaniels capped the jaunt by finishing a Bourke feed that elevated the New Haven advantage to eight, 59-51, with 7:07 remaining.

Saint Rose managed to get within six on two ensuing occasions, but the Chargers went 8-for-8 from the foul line throughout the final 3:10 to snap a four game skid.

McDaniels and Bourke led five New Haven double digit scorers with 21 and 17 points respectively.

Prior to today's game, cheerleader Laurielle Morais and senior guard Max Weaver were recognized for their contributions to the program as part of Senior Day Festivities.

Saint Rose also participated in the national Coaches vs. Cancer and PinkZone efforts this afternoon. To that end, all gate receipts from today's doubleheader have been earmarked for the annual John Pesce Memorial Award and Camp Bravehearts.

Looking ahead, Saint Rose is on the road Wednesday to take on Adelphi in the second half of a league doubleheader on Long Island. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 pm. Meanwhile, the Chargers are off until next Saturday when they will host none other than the Panthers at 1:30 pm.

Also, next Saturday's home NE-10 twinbill versus Southern Connecticut State will be featured on national television as part of the American Sports Network's Division II Showcase. The women's game will get underway at 2:00 pm, while the men's contest will tip-off at 4:00 pm to accommodate the television broadcasts. The games will also be streamed live on www.ncaa.com.
