BIG SECOND HALF PROPELS SAINT ROSE PAST AIC


SPRINGFIELD, Mass.-The College of Saint Rose went 7-for-9 from the arc and outscored host American International 46-28 in the second half on Saturday to win its third straight with a 74-66 triumph in Northeast-10 Conference play.
 
American International (11-14/ 7-12 NE-10) used a 13-3 run over the final 4:17 of the opening frame to lead the Golden Knights (13-13/11-9 NE-10) at the break, 38-28.
 
The Yellow Jacketswere up 51-44 with 14:19 to go before Saint Rose used a 16-2 run to lead 60-53 with 9:24 on the clock. However, AIC responded with a 7-0 run of its own to tie the game at 60-60.
 
Next, the Golden Knights scored the following eight points including five from senior guard Max Weaver to take an insurmountable 68-60 lead with 3:54 remaining.
 
Sophomore forward Julian Lipinski scored a game-high 16 points to lead seven Golden Knights with eight or more points. Freshman forward Pharroh Gordon and sophomore guard Mical-Ryan Boyd scored 11 and 10, respectively.
 
Junior forward Tyler Sayre finished with nine points and seven boards, while junior guard Damon Coleman tallied nine points, seven assists and two steals.
 
Saint Rose will now await its first NE-10 Championship opponent. Seeding will be officially announced late Tuesday night.
