PACE USES LONG BALL TO HOLD OFF SAINT ROSE

PLEASANTVILLE, NY-Host Pace University held off The College of Saint Rose down the stretch to chalk up a 68-61 Northeast-10 Conference victory tonight. The Setters (11-15/6-12 NE-10) shot 47.6 percent (10-for-21) from the arc and led throughout virtually the entire ballgame although the Golden Knights were never out of contention.

Junior forward Staci Barrett led four players in twin-figures scoring and senior guard Keyontae Williams recorded a "double-double" to spearhead the Saint Rose (14-12/8-11 NE-10) attack.

Barrett finished with 17 points and six rebounds, while Williams scored 12 points, hauled in nine of her 10 boards off the defensive glass, and came up with five steals. Junior guard Taylor Nazon and freshman forward Karissa Birthwright added 12 and 11 points respectively, while sophomore guard Britani Stowe passed around a game-high six assists.

Pace built its largest advantage of the evening behind a 12 point, 50-38, lead with 3:17 left in the third period when the Golden Knights scored seven unanswered points to get to within five, 50-45, with 1:20 to go. Saint Rose subsequently cut a pair of seven point, fourth period deficits to a bucket after Nazon canned a pair from the foul line with 1:49 remaining. The Setters then went 7-for-8 from the stripe throughout the final 53 seconds to snap a seven-game skid.

Sophomore guard Gabriella Rubin tossed in 16 points and junior center Kirsten Dodge contributed a "double-double" with 10 points and a like number of rebounds to lead Pace.

Looking ahead, both teams have 1:30 pm conference dates Saturday. The Golden Knights play their regular-season finale in the first half of an NE-10 doubleheader at American International in Springfield. Meanwhile, the Setters travel to New Haven.
