SPRINGFIELD, Mass.-The College of Saint Rose trailed by just one, 50-49, with 6:17 to go on Saturday, but was ultimately outlasted 66-54 by host American International in
Northeast-10 Conference action at Butova Gym. The loss for Saint Rose (14-13/ /-12 NE-10), along with New Haven's victory over Pace this afternoon, puts the Golden Knights out of postseason contention.
American International (22-4/15-4 NE-10) jumped out to a 13-4 lead before senior guard
Tyler Hansen canned a pair of 3-pointers and junior forward
Staci Barrett converted a layup to cut the deficit to 13-12.
Following a back-and-forth second period, the Yellow Jackets emerged with a 33-28 advantage at the break.
The Golden Knights trailed 44-33 with 3:41 left in the third, before mounting their comeback to nearly tie the game in the fourth. AIC closed the final 6:17 with a 16-5 run and made 5-of-6 free throws to secure the game. The Yellow Jackets also scored 17 points off 18 Saint Rose turnovers and shot 45.0 (27-for-60) percent for the game.
Junior guard
Taylor Nazon totaled 14 points, four rebounds, four assists and two steals. Senior guard
Keyontae Williams finished with 10 points, five rebounds, two assists and two steals.
Barrett scored eight points and pulled down six rebounds, while sophomore guard
Britani Stowe collected six points and four assists.
Freshman forward Dana Watts paced AIC with 16 points and 10 boards.
Today marked final game for the five Saint Rose seniors: Williams, Hansen,
Nicole Bini ,
Sarah Illingworth and
Kelsey Glanzman.
