SAINT ROSE CAN'T HANG ON IN PIVOTAL NE-10 MATCHUP

Highlights from www.ncaa.com
ALBANY- The College of Saint Rose held a 30-27 halftime edge on Saturday, but could not stave off visiting Southern Connecticut State, falling 68-51 in a crucial Northeast-10 Conference matchup at Daniel P. Nolan Gymnasium. The game was broadcast live on national television by the American Sports Network.

The Golden Knights (14-11/8-10 NE-10) led 19-12 after one, and a late 3-pointer from junior guard Taylor Nazon gave them the lead at the break. The Owls (15-10/8-9 NE-10) scored 24 points off 19 Saint Rose turnovers and used a 22-point third period to earn the victory down the stretch.

Nazon finished the game with a team-high 12 points on 5-of-10 shooting and also tallied three assists and two steals. Junior forward Staci Barrett recorded 11 points and nine rebounds, while senior guard Keyontae Williams shot 5-for-8 and totaled 11 points. Freshman guard Ashley Vanderwall rounded out the Golden Knight quartet in double-figures with 10 points.

For Southern Connecticut, senior guard Nicole Grossbard scored 13 points and dished out 13 assists. Senior forward Jackie Beathea finished with 10 points and 14 rebounds.

Up next, the Golden Knights visit Pace on Wednesday, February 17 to take on the Setters at 5:30 in the first half of an NE-10 doubleheader.

The top five teams in each division reach the NE-10 Championship and with two regular season games remaining, Saint Rose is sixth in the Southwest Division standings, half a game behind both Southern Connecticut and New Haven.
