SAINT ROSE SHOOTS PAST DAEMEN

Golden Knights Hand The Wildcats Their First Home Loss Of The Year

AMHERST, NY-The College of Saint Rose shot better than 50.0 percent for the third straight game and handed Daemen its first home loss of the year with today's 67-64 non-conference victory.

The Golden Knights (12-3) converted 51.9 percent (28-for-54) of their field goal attempts and had all 11 players who saw minutes figure in the scoring column.

"It's a nice way to end 2016. Daemen is a very good team. Our guys did the little things to grit out another win. Any time you can win on the road, at any level, it's a real plus," said head coach Brian Beaury.

Senior forward Tyler Sayre finished with 16 points and junior guard Mical-Ryan Boyd had 12 points and five rebounds to lead Saint Rose. Also, senior guards Damon Coleman and Chris Dorgler added eight points apiece.

The Wildcats (7-5) came back from a pair of 10 point deficits early in the second half to afford themselves a chance to pull it out at the end. Freshman forward Jeff Redband canned a trey to tie the contest for the fourth time, 62-62, with 2:32 left. Dorgler countered to make 65-62 Saint Rose with 1:59 showing on the clock.

Sophomore guard Deion Hamilton then converted both of his free throws to get Daemen back to within a point, 65-64, and after each team came up empty on their ensuing possessions, Coleman grabbed a Sayre miss and converted inside to put the Golden Knights back up by three, 67-64, with 17 ticks remaining.

Daemen called timeout and had a pair of subsequent looks from the arc, but could not get either one to fall as time expired.

Saint Rose built a 10 point lead with 16:51 to go in the ballgame after junior forward Julian Lipinski knocked down a jumper. The Wildcats cut the deficit in half throughout the next two minutes, but Sayre hit a pair of foul shots and Dorgler drained another 3-pointer to push the advantage back to 10, 47-37, with 13:31 to play.

Daemen meticulously climbed back during the following 10 minutes, before Redband's trey deadlocked it 62-62.

Redband led four Wildcats double-figure scorers with 14 points. Senior guard Supreme Hanna finished with 13, while fellow senior guard Jaleo Wilkes and Hamilton added 11 and 10 respectively.

Looking ahead, Saint Rose returns to Northeast-10 Conference action Wednesday with a date at Southern New Hampshire in Manchester. The second half of the league twin-bill is set to get underway at 7:30 pm. Meanwhile, Daemen has a 7:00 pm home East Coast Conference meeting Monday versus Mercy College.
Notes: Saint Rose entered today ninth in the country in scoring defense (63.4)…The Golden Knights lead the NE10 in that category and are second in steals (6.0) and free throw percentage (77.4)…They are now 3-1 on the road…Nine players see at least an average 12 minutes of playing time and six are scoring between 13.4 and 7.3 points per game with Boyd leading the way.
