ALBANY-The College of Saint Rose overcame an early 10 point deficit and held off a wild Holy Family comeback to upend the Tigers 88-81 in final day action of The East Coast Challenge at the Daniel P. Nolan Gymnasium.
The Golden Knights eclipsed yesterday's season-best shooting percentage (50.0) by burying 66.7 percent (34-for-51) of their opportunities from the floor.
Â
Junior guard
Mical-Ryan Boyd made his first 11 shots and finished 5-for-6 from the arc, 11-for-12 from the floor, to pace five Golden Knights double-figure scorers with a career-high 29 points.
Â
"We fought off a young and talented Holy Family team today. Great performances come along now and again, and Mical Ryan Boyd had one of those today. He got great support with four others in double figures, but the game still came down to two big defensive stops late," said head coach
Brian Beaury.

Saint Rose (11-3) outscored Holy Family 23-5 throughout a seven minute stretch that turned a 10 point, 14-4, deficit into a 27-19 lead with 6:29 to go in the first half. The Golden Knights went into the locker room up four, 39-35, at the break and then proceeded to take off on a 25-11 jaunt at the outset of the second period that put them ahead by 18, 64-46, with 12:35 remaining.
Â
However, the Tigers (5-7) stormed back to get within one, 77-76, after freshman guard Randy Bell drained a 3-pointer with 2:24 showing on the clock. It was still a two-point ballgame less than a minute later when senior center Malcolm Gilbert knocked down a jumper in the paint.
Â
Senior forward
Tyler Sayre then countered with a jumper off a feed from senior guard
Damon Coleman to put Saint Rose back up four, 82-78, with 1:10 remaining. The Tigers then turned the ball over and the Golden Knights canned all six of their free throws and limited Holy Family to one field goal down the stretch to scratch out the victory.
Â
Junior forward
Jack Jones went 6-for-8 from the field en route to a 17 point performance. Sayre wound up with a dozen, while junior forward
Julian Lipinski and Coleman added 10 points apiece. Coleman also handed out seven assists. Senior forward
Chris Dorgler finished with eight points, eight boards, and four assists.
Â
Bell scored 22 of his game-high 32 points in the second half to pace Holy Family.
In today's first game, Philadelphia University upended Assumption 90-84. Freshman guard Kylan Guerra led five Rams (8-4) double-figure scorers with 25 points, while senior guard Marcus Murray paced the Greyhounds (2-9) with 20.
