ALBANY-The College of Saint Rose shot 58.8 percent (30-for-51) from the floor and put six players in double-figures scoring to upend visiting Philadelphia University 90-72 in opening day action of The East Coast Challenge at the Daniel P. Nolan Gymnasium.

"I thought our guys played very well today. It's an easy game when the ball goes in, but it was our defense in the second half that propelled us. When you combine that with balanced scoring, you get a good result against a veteran Philadelphia University team," said head coach

The Golden Knights (10-3) took off on a 22-6 jaunt at the 13:47 mark of the first half that transformed a three point, 16-13, deficit into a 13 point, 35-22, advantage with 7:02 to go. Saint Rose never trailed again and went into the locker room up 11, 50-49, at intermission.
The Golden Knights led by as many as 21, 70-49, after senior forward
Tyler Sayre converted a layup with 11:53 left in the ballgame. The Rams (7-4) got no closer than within 12 points the rest of the way.

Mical-Ryan Boyd dropped in 10 points in each half to lead the scoring parade with a game-high 20. Sayre finished with 15, while senior forward

Jack Jones added 12 each.

Anthony Russell knocked down three of his four attempts from long range to wind up with 11 in 16 minutes off the bench, while senior guard
Damon Coleman had 10 points to go along with six rebounds and four assists. Dorgler had a season-high eight boards.

For Philadelphia, junior guard Kaison Randolph finished with 18 points, six rebounds and five assists.

In today's first game, Holy Family (5-6) pulled away to upend Assumption (2-8) 76-69. Freshman guard Randy Bell tossed in 35 points and junior forward Dyllon Hudson-Emory scored 27 to pace the Tigers. Sophomore forward Damien Rance led the Greyhounds with 18 points.

Looking ahead, the weekend tournament continues tomorrow with Saint Rose taking on Holy Family at 3:00 pm following the Assumption and Philadelphia University 1:00 pm tilt.
