SAINT ROSE SUFFERS SIX POINT SETBACK TO UPSTATE CHALLENGE RIVAL LE MOYNE

Nazon Ties Her Season-HIgh With 18 Points To Lead Golden Knights

ALBANY-Le Moyne outlasted The College of Saint Rose 58-52 in Northeast-10 Conference action tonight at the Daniel P. Nolan Gymnasium. The game was close throughout although the Dolphins led for most of the second half in the latest edition of the Upstate Challenge rivalry series between the two institutions.

The Dolphins (6-1/3-0 NE-10) outrebounded the Golden Knights 19-10 on the offensive glass that led to a 19-7 differential in second chance points.

Senior guard Taylor Nazon tied her season-high with 18 points, while senior forward Staci Barrett and junior guard Britani Stowe finished with 13 and 10 respectively to lead the Golden Knights (2-4/1-3 NE-10).

Le Moyne walked in the locker room up a 26-25 at intermission and nursed a one or two possession advantage for most of the second half.

Barrett hit a pair of free throws that briefly put the Golden Knights ahead, 34-31, with 4:51 to go in the third period. However, the Dolphins countered with a 7-1 spurt to assume the lead for good, 38-35, with 1:42 showing on the clock.

Saint Rose hung tough though and was within a bucket on three occasions throughout the fourth period. Nazon drained a huge 3-pointer from the top of the key with 1:52 left to get the Golden Knights within two, 51-49. Le Moyne then took care of business down the stretch by going 5-for-6 from the foul line to run its win streak to six games.

Senior guard Ailayia Demand and freshman guard McKayla Roberts scored 10 points apiece to lead the Dolphins who had all 10 of their players figure in the scoring column.

Looking ahead, both teams are back home Saturday. Saint Rose welcomes Southern Connecticut State for a 1:30 pm tip, while Le Moyne hosts Adelphi at 12:00 pm.
Notes: Barrett has been in double-figures scoring in all six games to date while Nazon has pulled off the feat on five occasions…Saint Rose owns a +1.2 turnover margin on the year.
