PLESANTVILLE, NY-The College of Saint Rose used a 9-0 run that bridged the second and third periods and then held off host Pace to grab a 68-63 Northeast-10 Conference victory tonight.
Â
The aforementioned jaunt transformed a 28-26 lead into a 37-26 advantage with seven minutes left in the third. However, Pace hung around and was within a bucket on a pair of occasions and within one on another throughout the final 2:37.
Â
It stood 64-63 Golden Knights (2-3/1-2 NE-10) with 1:07 remaining when senior forward
Staci Barrett converted a layup and then closed it out with a pair of free throws after the Setters came up empty on their previous trip up the floor.
"I was pleased with our improved rebounding. It has been a focus of ours and it's good to see that paying off. Staci had a great night and her free throw shooting was clutch down the stretch. Leah gave us good minutes and that was critical. It's a nice way to head into this break," said head coach
Karen Haag.
Â
Barrett finished with a season-high 20 points and a pair of assists. Sophomore
guard Ashley Vanderwall and senior guard Taylor Nazon tossed in 12 and 10 respectively, while freshman forward Leah Dollard went 4-for-6 from the floor on the way to a season-best nine points in 26 minutes of reserve duty.
Â
For Pace (3-2/1-1 NE-10), sophomore guard Alexandra Monteleone finished with 20 points and senior forward Aurellia Cammock tossed in 17 points and hauled in seven boards throughout 25 minutes off the bench.
Â
Looking ahead, Saint Rose is off until Wednesday, November 30 when Upstate Challenge rival Le Moyne visits the Capital Region. Tip-off for the opening game of the NE-10 doubleheader is set for 5:30 pm. Meanwhile, Pace hosts Post University in a non-league encounter Saturday at 3:00 pm.
