SPRINGFIELD-American International went 16-for-17 from the foul line and outrebounded The College of Saint Rose 26-17 off the offensive glass to upend the Golden Knights 65-49 in the
Northeast-10 Conference opener for both clubs tonight.

Saint Rose was within eight, 30-22, at intermission, but the Yellow Jackets (2-1/1-0 NE-10) used a 14-6 run that spanned eight minutes of the third period to seize control, 46-30, with 1:23 to go.

The Golden Knights (1-2/0-1 NE-10) managed to get within 11 on three occasions in the opening three minutes of the fourth, the last time coming after sophomore guard
Ashley Vanderwall converted a layup off a feed from junior guard
Britani Stowe.

However, American International scored five unanswered points to push its advantage back to 16 with 5:44 remaining.

Senior forward
Staci Barrett led Saint Rose with 15 points behind 7-for-8 shooting from the floor. Sophomore forward
Karissa Birthwright added nine points and five rebounds.

For the Yellow Jackets, sophomore forward Dana Watts and sophomore guard Alyssa Guyon each recorded a "double-double". The former finished with 28 points and 15 rebounds, while Guyon wound up with 15 points and 11 boards.

Looking ahead, the Golden Knights play their home opener Saturday versus New Haven in the first half of a conference doubleheader. Tip-off is scheduled for 1:30 pm. Meanwhile, American International has a 1:30 pm league date Saturday at Adelphi on Long Island.
