GOLDEN KNIGHTS CANNOT OVERCOME EARLY DEFICIT

NORTH EASTON, MA–The College of Saint Rose could not overcome a 2-0 deficit for the second consecutive day as host Stonehill upended the Golden Knights 3-1 (25-19, 25-17, 14-25, 25-21) in Northeast-10 Conference action today. This came on the heels of yesterday's 3-0 setback at Bentley.

Saint Rose got itself back in the match behind a dominating third set. The Golden Knights (9-13/4-6 NE-10) opened up a 10-3 lead and never looked back. They eventually led 20-12 and scored five of the final seven points to close it out.

The fourth then featured eight ties during the early going with the final deadlock coming at 14-14. However, the Skyhawks (10-12/5-6 NE-10) rattled off three unanswered points behind an ace and a pair of Golden Knights attack errors, and never trailed again.

Senior middle hitter Maryellen Devic finished with nine kills and 11 digs to lead a balanced Saint Rose attack.

Senior outside hitter Rachel Salasky and senior middle hitter Jennifer Gundrum also had nine kills apiece, while freshman outside hitter Stevie Schweitzer added six.

In the back, senior libero Samantha Atchinson and freshman defensive specialist Tina Ceriello recorded 18 and 10 digs respectively. Sophomore setter Sam Kubik passed around 20 assists. Senior Erica Ziskin handed out 14 of her own as well.

As for Stonehill, junior middle hitter Katherine DeLanty was a dominant force. DeLanty recorded a .394 hitting percentage with 16 kills and only three attack errors throughout 33 swings. She also came up with seven digs to go along with three blocks and an ace.

Looking ahead, Saint Rose returns home Wednesday to face Assumption at 7:00 pm. Meanwhile, Stonehill is off until Friday when the Skyhawks travel to New Haven to visit Southern Connecticut State.
