GOLDEN KNIGHTS SUFFER OVERTIME SETBACK

#5 seed Saint Rose will visit #4 Stonehill for Tuesday's NE-10 Championship Quarterfinal

NE-10 Championship Central
ALBANY-Merrimack scored the game-winner 1:30 into overtime to upend The College of Saint Rose 2-1 in Northeast-10 Conference action this afternoon at Sullivan Field at the Plumeri Sports Complex. The contest marked the regular-season finale for both squads.

The Golden Knights (11-6-0/8-6-0 NE-10) dictated the pace for most of the match with a 21-13 shot differential, including a 12-7 margin in the second period. Saint Rose also manufactured five corners, while surrendering just three.

However, the Warriors (8-7-3/5-6-3 NE-10) delivered the decisive blow to snap a four-game Saint Rose win streak. Junior forward Sarah Boucher sent a ball to the right flank that sophomore forward Amber Gustafson volleyed into the top right-corner from about 25-yards out to bring about an abrupt end to a contest that had key postseason ramifications riding on it.

The Golden Knights trailed 1-0 at halftime despite engineering a 9-5 shot advantage during the opening 45 minutes.

Senior midfielder Sammy Blizzard eventually tied it for Saint Rose with 67:58 expired when she touched home a cross from the right flank off the foot of freshman forward Victoria Barris.

Merrimack initially put itself in the driver's seat during the opening 14 minutes when junior forward Victoria Carter collected a loose ball in the area and let go a shot that sailed into the lower right side.

Looking ahead, the fifth-seed Golden Knights will visit fourth-seed Stonehill for Tuesday's NE-10 Championship Quarterfinal. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 pm in North Easton, MA. The Skyhawks finished with an 8-5-1 league record to garner 25 points in the league standings, one better than Saint Rose at 8-6-0.
Notes: This was the second overtime home loss for Saint Rose this season…The other was a 3-2 setback to Southern New Hampshire on September 10…The Golden Knights will be seeking their eighth NE-10 title within the past 10 years…Blizzard has scored a goal in each of the last three matches.
