NORTH EASTON, MA–The College of Saint Rose engineered a 7-4 shot-on-goal advantage only to fall 2-0 to host Stonehill in today's
Northeast-10 Conference Championship Quarterfinal. This marks the first time since 2001 that the Golden Knights (11-8) will not advance to the NE-10 semifinal round.
Â
The fourth-seed Skyhawks (14-5-1) will now meet top-seed and defending league champion Adelphi (15-2-1) on Friday. The Panthers moved on behind today's 2-1, double overtime win versus eighth-seed Southern New Hampshire.
Â
Stonehill put itself in a favorable position with a mere 1:58 elapsed when junior forward Meredith Moore delivered a cross from the right side that sophomore midfielder Courtney Campo deflected inside the right post.
Â
The Skyhawks then afforded themselves some breathing room midway through the second period. Senior midfielder Andrea Mancuso finished a pass from sophomore forward Caroline Colbert at the 76:02 mark.
Â
Saint Rose then manufactured two more chances. Freshman forward
Victoria Barris and sophomore midfielder
Sophia Constantine each manufactured shots-on-goal, but Stonehill senior keeper Jamie Block turned aside each threat to account for two of her seven saves on the afternoon.
Â
At the other end, sophomore
Madison Taylor recorded a pair of stops for a Golden Knights squad that has 16 freshmen listed on its roster.
Â
Looking ahead, Saint Rose will now wait to see if it garners an NCAA Tournament at-large berth. The field is scheduled to be announced Monday, November 7.
