ALBANY-The College of Saint Rose engineered a beautiful goal midway through the first half, but visiting #20 Franklin Pierce scored three unanswered strikes to upend the Golden Knights 3-1 in
Northeast-10 Conference action today at Sullivan Field at the Plumeri Sports Complex.
Â
The Golden Knights (5-8-1/3-7-1 NE-10) manufactured an 8-2 corner kick differential, but the Ravens (10-3-0/8-3-0 NE-10) generated an 11-7 shot advantage en route to their fourth victory in their last five matches.
Â
Sophomore midfielder
Jean-Philippe Rutabayiro made it 1-0 Saint Rose when he got high in the air to head home a splendid cross off the foot of fellow sophomore midfielder
Carlos Menjivar.
Â
However, Franklin Pierce struck twice within a seven minute span that bridged halftime. Junior back Hamish Cadigan converted a penalty kick with 40:32 elapsed and then freshman midfielder Jacob Blixt one-timed a cross from graduate forward Marius Preber for what stood up as the game-winner with 47:32 gone by.
Â
Blixt then added an insurance marker four minutes later when he lined a free kick from some 35-yards out that rattled off the bottom off the crossbar and snuck in behind the goal line.
Â
Senior keeper
Christian Esposito came up with four saves for the Golden Knights, while freshman Jadel Poon-Lewis registered a pair at the other end.
Â
Looking ahead, both teams are back on the pitch Tuesday for conference matches. The Golden Knights head to Colchester, VT for a 3:00 pm date at Saint Michael's while Franklin Pierce hosts Le Moyne at 4:00 pm in Rindge, NH.
