SAINT ROSE SCORES THREE TIMES IN FIRST HALF TO UPEND BENTLEY

Haruna-iya and Lajeunesse link up twice.

WALTHAM, MA-The College of Saint Rose scored three times less than 10 minutes apart in the first half to upend host Northeast-10 Conference rival Bentley 3-1 this afternoon.

The Golden Knights manufactured a 10-8 shot advantage, including a 6-2 differential in threats-on-target, and engineered six corner kicks while surrendering only two.

"The boys played extremely hard and focused on the road against a very tough and organized Bentley team. I was especially happy with the attacking soccer we were able to put together and hope that we carry some positive momentum into our upcoming match with Assumption," said head coach John Ciano.

Junior midfielder Suleiman Haruna-iya converted a pair of passes from senior back Pablo Lajeunesse around a strike from sophomore Ryan Rooney, who finished a feed from sophomore midfielder Carlos Menjivar.

In goal, senior Christian Esposito was called upon to make one save en route to lowering his goals-against-average to 1.56 on the year.

Haruna-iya gathered a feed from Lajeunesse off the right wing and drove his shot off the far post with 27:51 elapsed to make it 1-0 Saint Rose (3-6/1-5 NE-10). Six minutes later, Rooney volleyed a Menjivar free kick for what proved to be the game-winner. Haruna-iya then added an insurance marker with 35:47 gone by when he headed home a Lajeunesse cross.

The Falcons (0-6-2/0-4-1 NE-10) eventually ruined the clean sheet when sophomore back Kevin Williams touched in a cross off the foot of junior forward Sean Sullivan at the 77:04 mark.

Looking ahead, the Golden Knights return home Saturday for a 1:00 pm conference date with the Greyhounds. Meanwhile, the Falcons are on the road Wednesday with a 3:30 pm meeting at Stonehill in Easton, MA.
