GOLDEN KNIGHTS FALL 83-70 AT #15 SAINT ANSELM


MANCHESTER, NH-Host and #15 Saint Anselm shot 57.1 percent (20-for-35) in the second half to upend The College of Saint Rose 83-70 in Northeast-10 Conference action this afternoon. The Hawks (13-1/8-1 NE-10) erased a four point halftime deficit by going 6-for-10 from the arc throughout the final 20 minutes to run their win streak to seven games.
 
Sophomore guard Mical-Ryan Boyd and sophomore center Sam Eckstrom came off the bench to produce season highs and lead four Golden Knights (6-8/4-4 NE-10) in twin figures scoring. Boyd finished with 15 points in 27 minutes of duty while Eckstrom contributed 14 throughout 17 minutes.
 
Additionally, junior forward Tyler Sayre contributed 12 points while sophomore forward Julian Lipinski recorded a "double-double" behind 10 points and a career best 12 rebounds.
 
The contest featured five ties and ten lead changes before Saint Anselm put itself in the catbird seat via a 22-6 run at the 14:06 juncture that transformed a 45-45 tie into a 16 point, 67-51, Hawk lead with 8:49 to go. Saint Anselm eventually pushed its advantage to 20 points at the five minute mark.
 
The opening stanza played out much better as Saint Rose forced Saint Anselm into 12 turnovers to take a 38-34 lead at the break. The Golden Knights led by as many as 10 points on four occasions, the last time after Boyd knocked down a 3-pointer with 1:37 left that made it a 38-28 affair. However, the Hawks closed the half with six unanswered points to get themselves back within striking distance.
 
Junior forward Harrison Taggert scored 27 points, on 9-for-13 shooting, pulled down eight rebounds, and handed out five assists to pace Saint Anselm. Meanwhile, freshman guard Cody Ball and senior guard Victor Joshua added 15 and 13 points respectively.
 
Looking ahead, Saint Rose is back home Wednesday to face Assumption in the second half of an NE-10 doubleheader. Tip-off is set for 7:30 pm. Meanwhile, Saint Anselm is on the road Tuesday for a 7:00 pm league date at Le Moyne in Syracuse.
