SAINT ROSE FALLS FOR ONLY THE SECOND TIME AT HOME

ALBANY-The College of Saint Rose suffered just its second setback at home this season with tonight's 80-66 defeat at the hands of visiting Northeast-10 Conference rival Southern New Hampshire.

The Penmen (9-5/5-3 NE-10) shot 57.1 percent (28-for-49) from the floor and buried 90.5 percent (19-for-21) of their free throw opportunities to chalk up their fifth win in the last six outings.

Freshman forward Pharroh Gordon tossed in a career-high 16 points and junior forward Tyler Sayre added a dozen to lead the Golden Knights (6-7/4-3 NE-10).

Junior forward Chris Walters recorded an efficient "double-double" behind 18 points and 16 rebounds in only 30 minutes, while senior guard Rodney Sanders led four double-figure scorers with 22 points, on 8-for-11 shooting, to lead the SNHU charge.

Saint Rose built a 14-10 lead after Sayre completed a traditional three-point play with 13:58 to go. However, Sanders countered with a 3-pointer at the other end to spark a 25-7 Penmen outburst that yielded a 14 point, 35-21, lead with 7:23 remaining until intermission.

The Golden Knights hung tough though and limited SNHU to a pair of field goals the rest of the way to get within six, 46-40, at the break.

It remained a two possession game throughout the majority of the opening nine minutes of the second stanza, before Saint Rose pulled to within three, 57-54, after senior guard Max Weaver went 1-for-2 from the line with 10:41 left.

Three minutes later, sophomore guard Anthony Russell buried a trey that made it a four point, 63-59, affair. However, SNHU halted the comeback attempt by outscoring the Golden Knights 11-1 to put itself in the driver's seat behind a 14-point, 74-60, cushion with only 3:09 to go.

Looking ahead, Saint Rose is back on the road Saturday for the second half of a conference doubleheader at Saint Anselm. Tip-off is set for 3:30 pm in Manchester, NH. Meanwhile, the Penmen have a 3:30 pm home date Sunday with league rival American International.
