SAINT ROSE SUFFERS SETBACK AT SURGING BENTLEY


WALTHAM, MA-Host Bentley showed why its' receiving votes in this week's WBCA National Poll with tonight's 70-55 victory against The College of Saint Rose in a Northeast-10 Conference cross-divisional game.
 
The Falcons (16-3/10-3 NE-10) shot a sizzling 62.5 percent (26-for-51) from the floor in the first half to open up a 37-14 lead at the break and never trailed to win their fourth straight game and tenth in their last 11 outings. Conversely, the Golden Knights (14-6/8-5 NE-10) had their three game win streak snapped.
 
Junior forward Staci Barrett finished with 12 points and eight rebounds while freshman forward Karissa Birthwright had a 5-for-6 shooting performance to wind up in double figures for the third straight game with 10 points.
 
Also, freshman guard Ashley Vanderwall went 3-for-5 from the arc to contribute 11 points in 17 minutes of reserve duty, while sophomore guard Britani Stowe handed out a season-high eight assists.
 
For Bentley, junior forward Jen Gemma tossed in a game-high 21 while freshman center Victoria Lux scored 14 points and pulled down eight rebounds. Freshman guard Megan Lewis was also in double figures scoring with a dozen.
 
Looking ahead, both teams are scheduled to host the front end of NE-10 doubleheaders Saturday at 1:30 pm. The Golden Knights will entertain Stonehill for Senior Day, while the Falcons will take on Southern Connecticut State. The College will furthermore honor a men's and women's basketball student-athlete with the inaugural John Pesce Memorial Award between contests. Additionally, the Capital District Chapter of the Saint Rose Alumni Association will continue its annual tradition of recognizing a Player of the Game following each contest.
