GOLDEN KNIGHTS GIVE NORTHEAST DIVISION LEADER BENTLEY ALL IT CAN HANDLE IN SIX POINT SETBACK

WALTAM, MA-The College of Saint Rose gave host Bentley all it could handle before succumbing 71-65 in a Northeast-10 Conference cross-over tilt tonight. In the process, the Northeast Division leading Falcons (15-3/12-1 NE-10) won their sixth straight and improved to 8-1 at home.

The Golden Knights (8-11/6-7 NE-10) held Bentley to a season-low 33.3 percent (18-for-54) shooting from the floor, but the Falcons outscored Saint Rose 26-11 from the foul line, including 17-6 in the second half.

Junior forward Tyler Sayre tossed in 29 points, two shy of his season-high, and sophomore forward Jack Jones scored 14 throughout 22 minutes off the bench to lead the Saint Rose charge.

Also, sophomore guard Mical-Ryan Boyd and freshman guard Shane Herrity handed out 12 assists with only one turnover collectively.

It was a two possession affair throughout the opening period although Saint Rose closed out the final two minutes on a 5-0 run to take a 26-25 lead at the break.

Bentley, which is receiving votes in this week's NABC National Poll, then put itself in control behind a 19-7 jaunt at the 16:31 mark of the second stanza that transformed a 33-33 tie into a 52-40 advantage with 9:54 to go. Saint Rose managed to get within seven on two occasions during the final four minutes, before a Jones 3-pointer with 10 seconds left accounted for the game's final bucket.

For the Falcons, graduate student guard Keegan Hyland scored 31 points and pulled down seven boards.

Looking ahead, both teams are scheduled to host the back end of NE-10 doubleheaders Saturday at 3:30 pm. The Golden Knights will entertain Stonehill, while the Falcons will take on Southern Connecticut State. The College will honor a men's and women's basketball student-athlete with the inaugural John Pesce Memorial Award between contests. Additionally, the Capital District Chapter of the Saint Rose Alumni Association will continue its annual tradition of recognizing a Player of the Game following each contest.
