GOLDEN KNIGHTS FALL 71-61 AT FRANKLIN PIERCE


RINDGE, NH-Host Franklin Pierce outscored The College of Saint Rose 15-5 throughout the final 4:26 to upend the Golden Knights 71-61 in this afternoon's Northeast-10 Conference game that featured 10 ties and five lead changes.
 
Sophomore forward Sam Eckstrom and freshman guard Shane Herrity each recorded 12 points, and junior forward Tyler Sayre tossed in 11 to lead the Golden Knights (7-9/5-5 NE-10) who had nine players see at least 10 minutes of action.

 
Saint Rose owned a 35-29 cushion with 17:28 remaining when the Ravens (8-7/5-5 NE-10) took off on a 9-1 jaunt that afforded the latter a 38-36 advantage.
 
It continued to be a one possession game as sophomore forward Julian Lipinski hit a jumper to afford the Golden Knights their final lead, 53-51, with 7:43 to go.
 
Five minutes later, junior guard Matt Banton knocked down a 3-pointer to make it 64-58 Franklin Pierce. On the next trip up the floor, jJunior guard Donte Gittens hit one himself following an offensive rebound to put the Ravens in the driver's seat, 67-59, with 1:11 remaining.
 
Banton and sophomore center Mike McDevitt finished with 14 points each to lead a balanced Franklin Pierce attack. Sophomore forward Asante Sandiford and junior forward Jordan Lackey both scored 13.
 
Looking ahead, both teams have road conference dates this Wednesday, January 20. Saint Rose will head to North Andover, MA to take on Merrimack at 7:30 pm, while the Franklin Pierce will travel to New Haven for a 5:30 pm date.
