OAKDALE, N.Y. – Junior outside hitter Maryellen Devic added a pair of double-doubles to her repertoire Saturday afternoon as The College of Saint Rose volleyball team downed Dowling 3-2 (25-20, 14-25, 17-25, 25-22, 15-10) and East Stroudsburg (25-16, 25-19, 21-25, 25-21) on the final day of the Long Island Invitational, hosted by Dowling College.

Devic's combined 26 kills and 27 digs gave the Golden Knights the push they needed to overcome Friday's season-opening 3-0 loss to NYIT. Saint Rose now sits 2-1 overall, while Dowling and East Stroudsburg move to 2-1 and 0-2, respectively.

Against the Golden Lions, Saint Rose took game one after a back-and-forth battle, but dropped the next two sets.

In game four, the score tied three times before the Golden Knights took the lead. Dowling tied it up twice throughout the set, but Saint Rose was able to push ahead and capture the set, forcing game five.

The Golden Knights pushed out to a 7-2 early lead, and maintained their steady momentum. Dowling came within one at the 11-10 mark, but Saint Rose went on a 4-0 spurt to take the match.

Devic registered 11 kills and 13 digs against the Warriors as Saint Rose jumped out to a 2-0 lead. East Stroudsburg took game three 25-21, but suffered the loss in the final set to give the Golden Knights their first win of the season.

Junior Jennifer Gundrum and freshman Grace Campbell followed Devic with 14 and 12 kills on the day, respectfully. Junior libero Samantha Atchinson dug up 41 opponent attacks throughout the day, while setters Erica Ziskin and Sam Kubik dished out 33 assists apiece. Kubik also slapped a team-high six aces on the day.

The Golden Knights head to the Roberts Wesleyan Quad match on Friday to take on Millersville at 5:00 pm. Play continues on Saturday with IUP and the host Red Hawks. Saint Rose opens its home slate on Friday, September 18 at the Saint Rose tri-match against Clarion at 7:00 pm.
