Last meeting (9/7/14): The Warriors kept Saint Rose at bay with an 8-1 win early last season. Sophomore
Alanna Bergmann captured the lone point for the Golden Knights with a 7-5, 6-4 victory over sophomore Abbey Bryant at fifth singles.
Scouting Saint Rose: The Golden Knights return five letterwinners and welcome two newcomers to the squad. Seniors
Isabella Cubillos and
Paige Southwick will anchor the team as they compete at No. 1 doubles together, and hold the first two singles positions, respectively. Senior
Maria Malafronte boasted the best singles mark last season with a 4-7 record at the No. 6 position, followed by sophomore
KeriAnn Mahoney at 3-10 in fifth singles. Southwick sat behind going 3-12 at No. 2.
Scouting Merrimack: Finishing fourth in the Northeast-10 Conference regular season standings last fall, the Warriors battled through the league championship tournament to finish second overall, falling to champion Stonehill 5-3. Merrimack compiled a 15-9 overall mark throughout the year, and 8-4 in the NE-10. Junior Grace Messina and sophomore senior Chealsey Giatrelis lead the pack of five returners, and welcome four newcomers. Messina boasted an impressive 22-4 mark at No. 1 singles last season, while Giatrelic compiled a 16-3 record at second and third singles. The two combined for a 12-1 post at first doubles.
Up next: Saint Rose hosts Upstate Challenge foe Le Moyne on Tuesday at 4:30 pm, and Merrimack heads to Colby-Sawyer on Sunday for a non-conference meeting.
