GOLDEN KNIGHTS SUFFER FIRST SETBACK

ALBANY–The College of Saint Rose suffered its first loss of the season with a 1-0 setback to visiting Northeast-10 Conference rival Pace University this evening. The Setters (5-3-1/3-2-1 NE-10) scored the game's lone goal in the 20th minute and then withstood a Golden Knights (7-1-1/5-1-0 NE-10) flurry throughout the second half to improve to 4-1-1 on the road.

Pace, playing with a strong wind at its back, struck when freshman midfielder Ariana Bresa stole the ball from a Saint Rose defender and lined a shot from about 22-yards out into the far upper-left corner.

The Golden Knights then took charge throughout the second stanza and did everything but find the back of the net. They engineered a 17-5 shot advantage and a 5-0 corner kick margin during that span.

The best chance came in the 88th minute when senior forward Jennifer Busk one-timed a rebound that rattled the crossbar. Sophomore forward Morgan Burchhardt delivered the initial threat that Pace sophomore keeper Aisha Chauhan was unable to hang onto.

The same pair nearly connected five minutes earlier when Burchhardt delivered a cross from the right flank that slipped just wide of the right post off a Busk header.

In the first half, senior midfielder Amanda Vasquez created a pair of opportunities in the 16th and 34th minutes respectively. She delivered a shot that forced Chauhan to make a diving save to her right and later created space, before delivering a volley that sailed just over the crossbar.

Looking ahead, both squads return to the pitch Saturday. The ninth-ranked Golden Knights have a 3:00 pm non-conference date at Mercy College in Dobbs Ferry, while the Setters will host league rival Saint Anselm at noon.
