SAINT ROSE BLANKS UPSTATE CHALLENGE RIVAL LE MOYNE

ALBANY–The College of Saint Rose recorded its third shutout within the last four matches behind tonight's 1-0 win against visiting Northeast-10 Conference and Upstate Challenge rival Le Moyne.

The Golden Knights (6-0-1/4-0-0 NE-10), who are ranked #9 for the second consecutive week in the NSCAA/Continental NCAA Division II Tire Poll, dictated the pace throughout with a 10-5 shot-on-goal advantage and a 9-2 corner kick differential.

Senior midfielder Amanda Vasquez capped a Saint Rose flurry to provide the game's lone goal with 37:04 elapsed when she touched home a cross off the right flank from fellow senior midfielder Gianna Smith.

Four minutes earlier, Smith weaved her way through the middle of the pitch for some 40-yards to create a dangerous opportunity that was thwarted at the last moment. A minute later, sophomore forward Morgan Burchhardt let go a strike that forced Dolphins senior keeper Tori Corsaro to make a diving save to her left.

In the opening 12 minutes, senior midfielder Michaela Phillips drove a shot from the top of the area that deflected off a Le Moyne defender before rattling the crossbar. Corsaro later dove to her right to deny Vasquez in the initial 10 minutes of the second period to keep the Dolphins hopes of an upset momentarily alive.

Corsaro finished with nine saves on the evening, while freshman Madison Taylor came up with five stops at the other end for the Golden Knights.

Tonight marked the 11th consecutive win for Saint Rose against Le Moyne. The Golden Knights have now outscored their seven opponents 22-4 on the year and have surrendered just one first half goal. Also, 13 different players have figured in the scoring column.

Looking ahead, both squads are on the road with league matches this Saturday. Saint Rose will travel to Springfield for a 2:00 pm date at American International, while the Dolphins will head to Manchester, NH for an 11:00 am meeting at Saint Anselm.
