ALBANY–The College of Saint Rose remained unbeaten with today's 2-0 win against visiting
Northeast-10 Conference rival Stonehill. The ninth-ranked Golden Knights (5-0-1/3-0-1 NE-10) dominated possession throughout the second half with a strong wind at their back. Saint Rose outshot the visiting Skyhawks (2-3-1/1-1-0 NE-10) 10-1 and engineered five corner kicks without yielding any during the second period.
Freshman midfielder
Sophia Constantine scored the game-winner midway through the opening stanza and junior forward
Kristin Carr added an insurance marker in the initial three minutes of the second period.
Constantine drove in a rebound from close range following a shot off the foot of sophomore forward
Morgan Burchhardt that Stonehill junior keeper Jamie Block could not maintain.
The Golden Knights asserted their control when sophomore back
Elisa Galbiati delivered a ball in the area that senior midfielder
Amanda Vasquez deflected to Carr who subsequently buried the insurance marker.
Prior to the contest, eleven players were honored as part of Senior Day festivities. The group included midfielders
Joani Medero,
Michaela Phillips, and
Gianna Smith; backs
Nicole Shively and
Ojwanna Wilson; forwards
Jennifer Busk and
Silvana Giovannone, and keepers
Bethany Ivens and
Jaime Durant; along with Carr and Vasquez.
Furthermore, head coach
Laurie Darling Gutheil was presented with a commemorative ball in honor of her recent 300th victory. She is one of only seven active NCAA Division coaches who have reached that milestone.
Looking ahead, both squads are back on the pitch this Tuesday. The Golden Knights will host
Upstate Challenge rival Le Moyne at 5:30 pm. That match may be seen live on
