ALBANY – The College of Saint Rose volleyball team was held to a .175 hitting percentage Friday evening in a 3-1 (14-25, 21-25, 25-22, 19-25) loss to Clarion University in Daniel P. Nolan Gymnasium.
The Golden Eagles nabbed their second win of the season and improved to 2-7, while Saint Rose fell to 3-4 overall.

Maryellen Devic led the Golden Knights with 14 kills, and also registered eight digs. Fellow junior outside
Rachel Salasky racked up 10 kills on the evening while digging up five attacks and dishing out one service ace. Libero
Samantha Atchinson paced the defense with 14 digs, and setter
Sam Kubik and
Erica Ziskin racked up 18 and 19 assists, respectively.
Trailing by two sets, Saint Rose finally tied game three nine times before taking a 12-9 lead and forcing a Clarion timeout. The Golden Knights kept their momentum coming out of the break, moving out to a 20-16 advantage as the Golden Eagles needed another timeout. Clarion was able to lay down a 3-0 run to bring them within one at the 21-20 mark, but Saint Rose collected four more points compared to Clarion's two to take its only set of the night.
The Golden Eagles got ahead early in game one as they jumped out to a 12-3 lead. Both teams took turns capturing tallies on the board, with Clarion moving out to a 19-10 advantage and Saint Rose calling its first timeout of the set. The Golden Knights could only muster four more points before Clarion took the game 25-14.
Despite the Golden Eagles winning set two, Saint Rose put up a fight throughout the entire game. Clarion held a steady lead until the 17-14 mark when the Golden Knights went on a 3-0 run to tie the game at 17-all and again at 18-18. The Golden Eagles tacked on two more points, followed by a Saint Rose timeout. Clarion came up with five more tallies, compared to Saint Rose's three to claim the set.
Clarion came out firing in set four after dropping the previous game, as it moved out to an 11-5 advantage. The Golden Knights called their first timeout of the set, followed by a continuance of the Golden Eagles' aggressive offense. Clarion kept the lead with a score of 18-10 as Saint Rose needed another break in play, and later took the set 25-19.
Saint Rose remains home on Saturday against non-conference foe Daemen at 1:00 pm.
