GOLDEN KNIGHTS SPLIT WITH IUP, ROBERTS WESLEYAN

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - Junior outside hitter Maryellen Devic extended her double-double count to five Saturday afternoon as The College of Saint Rose volleyball team split a pair of matches on the final day of the Roberts Wesleyan Quad Match, falling to IUP 3-2 (25-18, 22-25, 25-23, 12-25, 7-15) and shutting out the host Redhawks (25-16, 25-20, 25-18).

Devic racked up 25 kills and 26 digs as Saint Rose moved to 3-3 on the season. IUP improved to 4-1 and Roberts Wesleyan remained winless at 0-7. Libero Samantha Atchinson dug up 21 attacks on the day, and setters Erica Ziskin and Sam Kubik dished out a combined 61 assists. From the middle, Maddy Halverson put up three total blocks, and freshman Shayna Webber registered two.

Against the Red Hawks, the Golden Knights used a 4-0 run in game one to move to a 12-9 lead, and kept momentum from there. Saint Rose used three, 3-0 spurts to eventually claim the set 25-16.

Roberts Wesleyan put up a fight in game two as it jumped out to a 16-12 advantage, but Saint Rose battled back with a 5-0 run to tie the game at 17-17. The Red Hawks mustered just three more points throughout the rest of the game as the Golden Knights took a 2-0 overall lead heading into the break.

Saint Rose kept pushing in set three, leading throughout the entire game, and using a 6-0 run after the 19-18 mark to take the set and the match.

The Golden Knights held a 2-1 lead over the Crimson Hawks after three complete games, but were unable to hang on to the lead following that. In game four, IUP held a massive 18-6 advantage after three spurts in a row. Saint Rose put six more points on the board before the final, but it would not be enough to combat the deficit.

IUP kept momentum in game five with a 13-5 lead before a Saint Rose timeout. Both teams mustered two points apiece before the Crimson Hawks claimed the match.

The Golden Knights make their home debut on Friday against Clarion at 7:00 pm in the Saint Rose Tri-match. Play continues on Saturday against Daemen at 1:00 pm. All matches will be held in Daniel P. Nolan Gymnasium.
