FRAZIER, WICKHAM, WOOD AID IN SWEEP OF AIC

SPRINGFIELD, Mass.–Senior Ashlee Frazier and junior Nicole Wickham each collected a victory from the circle Sunday afternoon as the pair aided in 3-1 and 3-0 wins over American International for The College of Saint Rose softball team in Northeast-10 Conference action at Groff Field.

Frazier (2-2) sat five batters down in game one, while Wickham (7-8) fanned two and gave up only three hits en route to the shutout. Saint Rose improved to 12-15 overall, and 4-6 in the NE-10, while AIC dropped to 4-16, 1-7.

After two scoreless innings in the opener, junior Meghan Reynolds got things going in the third as she led off with a single to third. Reynolds was driven in on the next at-bat as sophomore Carly Wood doubled to right center, and pushed Reynolds home.

Juniors Danielle Brusca and Tina Karaqi both reached in the fourth, and occupied second and third, respectively, with two outs when junior Zoe DuBois at the plate. The Burnt Hills, N.Y., native singled to right, and advanced to second on a fielding error, allowing both runners to score.

The Yellow Jackets nabbed their lone run of the day in the seventh as senior Marlee Haigh doubled down the left field line, and advanced to third on a wild pitch from Frazier. Haigh later scored on a RBI single from junior Jenna Costa.

Wood ignited game two in the first at-bat with a single to shortstop. Brusca followed with a single to second, bringing up junior Taylor Snyder, who grounded out to second, but gave Wood enough time to scoot to the plate. Karaqi laid down an RBI single to left next to send Brusca home, and capped scoring on the inning.

The Golden Knights picked up the final run of the game in the third when Wood cranked out her second RBI double of the day to left center.

Wood led Saint Rose from the plate, going 3-for-7, followed by DuBois at 2-for-6, and Brusca and Karaqi with 2-for-7 performances.

The Golden Knights return to the diamond on Tuesday for a five game home stand starting with the Yellow Jackets at Cathy Haker Field at 3:00 pm. Southern Connecticut State ventures to the Capital District for a three game series beginning on Friday at 6:00 pm. Friday's contest serves as a breast cancer awareness night for the Golden Knights, while Saturday's doubleheader features a senior day celebration honoring the five senior members of the team for their hard work and dedication to the program.
