SAINT ROSE DROPS TWO AT #3 FRANKLIN PIERCE

Flynn goes 2-for-3 in the opener

RINDGE, NH–The College of Saint Rose dropped both ends of today's doubleheader against one of the country's hottest teams as third-ranked Franklin Pierce ran its win streak to 11 games and improved to 17-1 at home with 9-2 and 7-1 victories in Northeast-10 Conference action.

The Golden Knights (5-13/2-5 NE-10) jumped out to a 2-1 lead in the first game, but the Ravens (30-2/12-1 NE-10) scored three times in the sixth to go up 4-2 and then broke it open with five more runs an inning later. In the finale, Franklin Pierce again used a big inning with a four-run sixth that bolstered a 3-1 advantage into a six run cushion.

Sophomore third baseman Mike Flynn went 2-for-3 with an RBI triple and a double to go along with a walk, while junior right-hander Erik Martin tossed 2.0 innings of one hit ball out of the bullpen for Saint Rose in the opener.

The Ravens went up 1-0 in the first and Saint Rose responded in the second when Flynn's triple scored sophomore second baseman Tyler Ungerland who drew a leadoff walk. Freshman third baseman Michael Shine then followed with an RBI groundout. However, senior right-hander Paul Fahey and junior left-hander Gage Griffin held the Golden Knights hitless throughout the final 6.1 innings.

Junior first baseman Matt O'Herron finished 4-for-5 and scored two runs to lead the Ravens attack.

In the second game, the Golden Knights scored their run in the sixth when freshman shortstop Bray Curreri belted a leadoff double to the gap in right-center, moved to third on a fly out, and crossed home plate on a groundout.

Senior first baseman Zac Bellinger, senior right fielder Joseph Carcone, and junior left fielder Nick Venier also had hits for Saint Rose. Sophomore designated hitter Chris LaVorgna finished 3-for-4 with a pair of RBI for Franklin Pierce.

Looking ahead, the Golden Knights are back home tomorrow with a 2:00 pm doubleheader versus conference divisional rival Pace University. Meanwhile, Franklin Pierce will host NE-10 foe Saint Anselm on Tuesday at 6:00 pm.
