GOLDEN KNIGHTS SHUT DOWN AMERICAN INTERNATIONAL

ALBANY-The College of Saint Rose scored twice in the opening three minutes and never looked back en route to today's 10-1 win against visiting Northeast-10 Conference rival American International. It was the first time in the program's four-year history that the Golden Knights held an opponent to fewer than five goals.

Senior attack Kevin Fleming scored four times and junior attack Justin Golec found the back of the net three times to spearhead the Saint Rose (3-5/2-3 NE-10) offense. Also, senior midfielder Kris Miller had a goal and a pair of assists, while fellow senior midfielder Ryan McFee and sophomore midfielder Michael Tannenbaum both set up two strikes.

Defensively, senior goalkeeper Nick Longo recorded 14 saves to raise his save percentage to .675 on the year, second best in the NE-10. Also, junior defenseman Robert Reyes caused three turnovers while Golec forced a pair of miscues.

Golec and Fleming accounted for the first two Golden Knights strikes, before Fleming finished a McFee pass to make it 3-0 after the first quarter. Miller scored one of two man-down strikes for Saint Rose to open the second, before senior midfielder Michael Grundig, Golec and Fleming struck six minutes apart to make it a 7-0 game at halftime.

The Golden Knights then added two more in the third and another in the fourth, before American International (2-6/0-5 NE-10) senior defenseman Dan Gryszko tallied a perfunctory goal with 2:14 remaining.

Looking ahead, Saint Rose is back on the road one week from today with a noon game at conference rival Franklin Pierce in Rindge, NH. Meanwhile, the Yellow Jackets will host the Ravens this Wednesday at 1:00 pm in Springfield.
