GOLDEN KNIGHTS COME UP JUST SHORT IN NE-10 FIRST-ROUND

DORGLER AND GREENWOOD SCORE 15 POINTS EACH

COLCHESTER, VT-The College of Saint Rose had its 2014-15 season come to a dramatic close with a 68-65 Northeast-10 Conference Championship first-round setback at Saint Michael's tonight. The game was close throughout with 13 lead changes and six ties, but the host Purple Knights (17-10) held off the Golden Knights down the stretch to advance to Sunday's quarterfinal at #25 and defending league titlist Southern Connecticut State.

Junior forward Chris Dorgler and freshman guard Jamaal Greenwood scored 15 points apiece and handed out nine assists collectively to pace Saint Rose (9-19), which has no seniors on its roster. Also, freshman forwards Julian Lipinski and Jalaun Taylor tossed in 10 points each.

After building a 37-30 advantage at the break, Saint Rose found itself down seven, 64-57, with 4:28 to go. However, Dorgler, Lipinski, and Taylor knocked down consecutive jumpers to account for a 6-0 spurt that made it a one point, 64-63, ballgame with 1:59 left.

Senior forward James Cambronne then canned a jumper to break the Saint Michael's dry spell with 50 ticks showing on the clock. On the next possession, Dorgler was fouled on the floor. He calmly sandwiched both ends of the ensuing one-and-one around a timeout to again get the Golden Knights to within one, 66-65, but with only four seconds to go.

Saint Rose was thus forced to intentionally foul and senior guard Mike Holton, Jr. canned both free throws to account for the final margin. Taylor's desperation turnaround 3-pointer from the left wing bounced off the front rim as time expired.

Cambronne scored all 16 of his points in the second stanza to propel the Purple Knights. Holton, Jr. wound up with 16 as well, while senior guard Corey Crawford II and sophomore forward Matt Bonds finished with 14 and 11 respectively.

After a see-saw battle throughout most of the first period, the Golden Knights closed the half on a 13-1 run that transformed 29-24 deficit into their aforementioned 37-30 lead. However, Saint Michael's reeled off eight unanswered points at the 14:00 mark to tie the game 47-47 with 11:48 to go. Bonds tipped-in a missed free throw six minutes later to put the Purple Knights ahead for good, 58-57.
