LAST SECOND HEROICS LEAD SAINT ROSE PAST UPSTATE CHALLENGE RIVAL LE MOYNE

SYRACUSE-Junior forward Staci Barrett converted a layup with 0.3 seconds remaining to cap a 52-51 comeback win for The College of Saint Rose at Northeast-10 Conference rival Le Moyne tonight. In the process, the Golden Knights (4-2/3-1 NE-10) ran their win streak to three games and gained one-half point in the year-long Upstate Challenge rivalry series with the Dolphins (2-5/0-3 NE-10).

Saint Rose trailed by 11, 46-35, entering the fourth period when it proceeded to outscore the Dolphins 17-5. The Golden Knights cut their deficit to a bucket on three occasions and got to within one on another before Barrett canned a pair of free throws with nine seconds to go that tied it 50-50.

Saint Rose was then whistled for a foul in the backcourt on Le Moyne's ensuing trip up the floor. However, senior guard Vandell Andrade missed the second of her two free throws to set the stage for Barrett who finished a feed from sophomore guard Britani Stowe while being fouled. Her subsequent foul shot bounced off the rim, but the buzzer sounded to end the ballgame.

Barrett finished with a career-high 17 points to go along with seven boards and a pair of assists to lead the Golden Knights. Senior guard Keyontae Williams tossed in 12 points, while Stowe handed out four assists and came up with three steals.

Andrade recorded a double-double behind 21 points and 12 rebounds, and senior guard Lauren Salzbrenner finished with 11 points for Le Moyne.

Saint Rose got off to a great start by jumping out to an early 13-3 lead, before the Dolphins scored 10 of the first period's final 11 points to cut their deficit to one. They then walked in the locker room up 27-26 at intermission and outscored the Golden Knights 19-9 in the third to build their 11 point advantage after sophomore guard Ellie Leszyk drained a trey with three seconds remaining.

Looking ahead, both teams are on the road for NE-10 games this Saturday. The Golden Knights have a 1:30 pm encounter at Southern Connecticut State, while the Dolphins have a 12:00 pm date at Adelphi.
