SAINT ROSE HAS WIN STREAK SNAPPED AT SOUTHERN CONNECTICUT STATE


NEW HAVEN-The College of Saint Rose had its three-game win streak snapped with today's 70-60 setback at Northeast-10 Conference rival Southern Connecticut State.
 
The host Owls (5-3/1-3 NE-10) outscored the Golden Knights by 20 points in the second half to nullity a 10 point halftime deficit by shooting 75.0 percent (6-for-8) from the arc throughout that span. Meanwhile, the Golden Knights (4-3/3-2 NE-10) managed to knock down only 28.6 percent (2-for-7) of their long range second half attempts.
 
Senior guard Keyontae Williams went 7-for-11 from the floor on the way to 18 points to go along with six rebounds, while junior guard Taylor Nazon finished with 12 points and five assists for Saint Rose.
 
At the other end, sophomore guards Paige Decker and Chandler Williams shot a collective 70.0 percent (7-for-10) from 3-point territory en route to 19 and 15 points respectively. Also, senior guard Nicole Grossbard scored nine points and passed out four assists.
 
Saint Rose owned an 11 point, 21-20, lead with 8:39 left in the third period after freshman forward Karissa Birthwright finished a Williams feed. However, Southern Connecticut State took off on a 15-4 run that tied it 35-35 with 4:43 left. A minute later, Decker knocked down a 3-pointer to make it 37-36 and the Owls never trailed again.
 
Southern Connecticut State eventually boosted its lead to four, 43-39, entering the fourth period when the Owls subsequently scored 13 of the first 18 points to put themselves in control, 56-44, with six minutes left.
 
Looking ahead, the Golden Knights are home next Saturday, December 12, to take on Adelphi in the first half of an NE-10 doubleheader. Tip-off is set for 1:30 pm. The contest may also be seen live on www.gogoldenknights.tv. Meanwhile, the Owls are home this Thursday, December 10, for a 7:00 pm non-league tilt versus Concordia.
