SAINT ROSE COMES UP JUST SHORT VERSUS PHILADELPHIA

WORCESTER, MA-A late comeback by The College of Saint Rose came up just short to allow Philadelphia University to squeak out a 72-69 victory versus the Golden Knights in the first day of action at the East Region Classic on the Assumption College campus.

Saint Rose (6-5) rallied from seven down, 70-63, with 1:30 to go to get to within one, 70-69, with 39 ticks left, but misfired on two ensuing 3-point attempts after the Rams (10-2) canned a pair from the free throw line.

Sophomore forward Jack Jones knocked down a trey off an assist from junior guard Damon Coleman to make it 70-66 Philadelphia with 1:22 left. Sophomore guard Anthony Russell then came up with a steal that freshman guard Pharroh Gordon followed with another 3-pointer out of a Golden Knights timeout to make it a one point affair.

However, senior forward TJ Huggins buried two free throws at the other end with 29 seconds to go that proved to be enough for Philadelphia.

Gordon and sophomore guard Mical-Ryan Boyd scored 10 points each and Jones added nine to lead a balanced Saint Rose attack that featured all 10 participating players in the scoring column. Huggins wound up with a "double-double" behind 13 points and 15 boards, to go along with four assists, for the Rams who received double-digit point production from four different players.

Collectively, Philadelphia outscored Saint Rose 25-10 from the foul line and outrebounded the Golden Knights 20-9 on the offensive glass that yielded a 20-6 differential in second chance points.

Up next, Saint Rose will conclude its stay at the East Region Classic tomorrow with a 1:00 pm game versus Holy Family, which defeated host Assumption 94-80 in today's other contest. The Rams and Greyhounds will then meet at 3:00 pm.
