WEST HAVEN, CT-Senior guard
Keyontae Williams scored a career-high 22 points Saturday, as The College of Saint Rose defeated New Haven, 63-53, in a Northeast-10 Conference matchup held inside Charger Gymnasium.
Williams shot 11-of-20 (55.0 percent) from the field, posting career highs in field goals made and field goals attempted. She also grabbed a career-best seven rebounds.
Junior guard
Taylor Nazon totaled 15 points, two rebounds and two steals. At the line, she was 8-of-10, and converted on several important free throws down the stretch.
Freshman forward
Karissa Birthwright finished with 10 points, nine rebounds and two steals. Senior forward
Sarah Illingworth tallied four points and seven rebounds, while senior forward
Kelsey Glanzman scored four points and grabbed eight rebounds in 15 minutes of play.
The game featured 21 lead changes and 10 ties as neither team was able to pull away until the fourth period.
With the scored tied at 38-38 with 37 seconds remaining in the third period, the Golden Knights (2-2/1-1 NE-10) used a 12-4 run over the next 2:27 to take a 50-42 lead.
New Haven (2-2/1-1 NE-10) cut its deficit to just four with 1:05 remaining, but was unable to get any closer.
Saint Rose shot 16-of-22 (72.7 percent) from the free-throw line compared to just 10-of-17 (58.8 percent) for New Haven.
With the victory, the Golden Knights snap their six-game losing streak to New Haven. Entering Saturday, their last win over the Chargers was on February 21, 2012 (70-53).
