SAINT ROSE FALLS TO YELLOW JACKETS IN NORTHEAST-10 CONFERENCE OPENER


ALBANY-American International outscored The College of Saint Rose 24-7 throughout the second period to upend the Golden Knights 67-52 in the Northeast-10 Conference opener for both teams this evening at the Daniel P. Nolan Gymnasium.
 
The Golden Knights (1-2/0-1 NE-10) opened up a six point, 12-6, lead with 3:46 to go in the first, but the Yellow Jackets (1-0/1-0 NE-10) scored 27 of the game's ensuing 33 points to take a 12 point, 33-21, lead with 2:50 left until intermission.
 
Saint Rose managed to make it a two possession, 53-48, game with 3:47 left in the fourth. However American International caught itself and outscored the Golden Knights 9-1 during the next two minutes to seal the victory behind a 13 point, 62-49, lead with 1:20 left.
 
Junior forward Staci Barrett led the Golden Knights with nine point and nine rebounds, while junior guard Taylor Nazon added eight points and five assists. Furthermore, freshman guard Ashley Vanderwall jumped off the pine to contribute nine points during 14 minutes of action.
 
For American International, senior guard Brian Bishop went 8-for-16 from the floor on the way to a game-high 20 points.
 
Up next, both squads are back on the floor with 1:30 pm league games this Saturday. Saint Rose will visit New Haven, while the Yellow Jackets will host Adelphi.
