SAINT ROSE RALLY COMES UP SHORT VERSUS EAST STROUDSBURG

ALBANY-The College of Saint Rose rallied from a late 20 point deficit to get to within six, but visiting East Stroudsburg held on to upend the Golden Knights 94-86 during the final day of action at the Northeast-10 Challenge that was presented by Hilton Garden Inn-Albany Medical Center.

Saint Rose whittled a 76-56 deficit with 8:27 to go to six, 78-72, at the 4:09 mark, but got no closer the rest of the way as the Warriors (2-0) went 13-for16 from the foul line throughout the final 3:18.

Junior forward Tyler Sayre led the Golden Knights (1-1) for the second straight night with 23 points. Freshman guard Pharroh Gordon went 5-for-7 from the floor to wind up with 15 points in 20 minutes of reserve duty, while sophomore center Sam Eckstrom added 14 points, six rebounds and three assists.

Saint Rose rebounded from a 10-2 hole to forge five ties, before East Stroudsburg opened up a nine point lead on the way to a seven point, 44-37, advantage at the break. The Warriors then took off on a 15-4 jaunt at the 12:44 mark of the second half to take a 76-56 lead, before a Gordon 3-pointer ignited the Golden Knights charge. Junior guard Damon Coleman then finished inside and drained a jumper to make it a six point, 78-72, affair with 4:09 remaining.

The Warriors then took care of business from the foul stripe where the two squads made a collective 58 trips.

Junior forward Rasheed Moore scored 23 points and senior guard Will Brown wound up with 10 points, five rebounds and five assists for East Stroudsburg.

Looking ahead, the Golden Knights play their NE-10 opener Wednesday with a 7:30 pm encounter versus American International. The women's half of the doubleheader will get underway at 5:30 pm. Both contests are scheduled to be streamed live on www.gogoldenknights.tv.
