SAINT ROSE IS VICTORIOUS ON SENIOR DAY


ALBANY–The College of Saint Rose hit an efficient .297 and recorded 13 team blocks to upend visiting Northeast-10 Conference rival Saint Michael's 3-1 (25-22, 30-28, 20-25, 25-20) on Senior Day this afternoon.
 
The Golden Knights have now won five of their last six heading in the NE-10 Championship that gets underway Tuesday with quarterfinal matches at on-campus sites.
 
Prior to the match, senior right side hitter Carissa Dube and senior libero Kaitlin Shannon were recognized for their outstanding careers.
 
Saint Rose (12-11/8-6 NE-10) got off to a strong start by scoring six of the final 10 points to secure the opener. The Golden Knights then won a thrilling 30-point second set that featured 13 ties, and bounced back from a 25-20 loss in the third by going on a 5-1 run in the finale that transformed a 16-16 deadlock into a 21-17 advantage. Saint Rose then rattled off the final three points after the Purple Knights (12-12/5-9 NE-10) closed to within 21-19.
 
Senior middle hitter Maryellen Devic recorded 17 kills, with only four errors throughout 30 swings, to go along with 13 digs, to pace the Golden Knights offense. Junior outside hitter Rachel Salasky put away 17 kills, while Dube had 10 kills to go along with five blocks.
 
In the back, junior libero Samantha Atchinson came up with 16 digs while freshman setter Sam Kubik passed around 27 assists to go with 11 digs. Junior setter Erica Ziskin also had had 27 assists, while junior right side hitter Jennifer Gundrum wound up with six kills and seven blocks.
 
Senior outside hitter Kelsey Flaherty had 14 kills and 10 digs to pace Saint Michael's.
